You Won't Be Sorry When You Visit Beverly Beach

One of our favorite campgrounds on the Oregon Coast is Beverly Beach. The park is located just north of Newport. We have been camping there for many reasons. One of the reasons is that the campsites themselves are really nice because of the forest like setting. It is a very popular park for a reason.
The park is on one side of the road while the Pacific Ocean is on the other side. But don’t worry! There is a walkway under the highway that emerges to the long expanse of sandy beach.
The beach extends south to Yaquina Head Lighthouse (which you can see) to the north to the headlands of Otter Rock.
Beachcombing At Beverly Beach
If you are looking for fossils, agates and shells you want to head south on the beach. If you want to surf or else watch the surfers then you want to go north on the beach.
Everyone likes to bring a bucket and build sand castles. If you don’t want to build your own there are usually plenty of people there building them. You can just watch them.
If the weather cooperates the sky will be covered with kites. It is a great place for flying them and there are all kinds of kites. I remember when I was little the kites were all the same. They were just some pieces of thin wood with a tissue paper covering. They now have kites that are over 50 feet long.
Private Camp Sites
After you have played and walked the beach for a few hours it is time to go back to camp.
It is just a few steps from the ocean and you are then in the forest sheltered campground. Giant, wind sculpted trees and logs surround the campsites that are strung along pebbly Spencer Creek.
Start your campfire going and then go take a nice warm shower. I mean where else do you get heated individual showers for free!
The play area and large grass and sand areas are close to the campsites. The sites are private, clean and level.

Visitor Center.
There is a Visitors Information Center where you can also purchase books, souvenirs or toys. It is hard to imagine all of this is just a few minutes drive from the Oregon Coast Aquarium, shopping and other attractions.
Interpretive Programs
The really nice thing about this park is they regularly have interpretive programs in their outdoor theater. They have different programs all the time and you can learn a lot about the area you are in and also about safe camping. There are programs that show you the different wildlife and plants in the area. It is a lot of fun and the kids love them. The picture below shows the screen that some of the programs and shown on.
