Campfire Bird Nest Breakfast
I learned how to make this campfire bird nest breakfast many years ago when I belonged to the Campfire Girls.
This is a great organization for girls. They teach them many things and one of them is how to cook over an open fire.
This recipe is great and one of many they taught us, but this one was my favorite.
Ingredients
- Eggs
- Sliced bread
- Bacon
- Salt and pepper
Instructions For Making The Bird Nest
Cook the bacon over the fire. When it is crisp, transfer to paper towels to drain. Be sure to use at least 2 layers of towels.
Pour out the bacon grease from the skillet. Tear the center out of the bread. Put the bread in the skillet and toast one side.
Turn the bread and crack an egg into the center of the bread. Add salt and pepper. Cook until the egg is firm and transfer to a plate. Top with the crumpled bacon. You can add a piece of cheese on top if you like cheese.
Kids love to make the breakfast for everyone. It makes them feel like they have contributed to the camping trip.
