Clam Digging On The Oregon Coast

Razor Clams on the Oregon Coast Have you wanted to go clam digging on the Oregon coast but didn't know where? You will find some great places to dig for those clams here.

It is a very popular outdoor activity and very inexpensive. You only need a shovel or rake and some good boots and also a bucket. Please don’t forget your license!

The best time to dig is an hour before and an hour after low tide. You can get tide charts at any sporting goods store. A lot of these stores will also tell you where the best digging is.

The map will give you an idea of where to dig and what you can find there. You can find information on the different types of clams that you can find on the Oregon coast plus some great clam recipes. There is also information on how to clean and store them.

Where To Dig For Clams

Oregon Coast Clamming Map With this map I have tried to show you where you can dig for these delicious morsels. It covers the Oregon coast from the north to the south.

Some of the best places to find clams are in some of the bays.

The bay at Taft, Oregon is a good place and you will always find people out their clamming. Just remember that you want the low tide.

Please remember to obey the Oregon laws governing the harvesting of clams. There are signs posted just about everywhere that say you dig clams in that area.

It is a lot of fun and can be really quite missy but you won’t be sorry when you start eating them. It is up to you on how to prepare them.

I have some great recipes posted that you might like to try. We love to cover them with flour or cornmeal and just fry them in a skillet. Chowder is one of our favorite ways to use clams.

If you have to many to eat right away then just freeze them. They will last a least a year in the freezer if you vacuum seal them. They are just as good after a year in the freezer as they would be today.

Great Seafood

The Oregon coast is known for its great seafood. If you don’t want to go clam digging then you can stop and any fresh seafood shop. We have a favorite in Lincoln City and they usually have just about anything that you want. Smoked salmon is great to snack on.

If you don’t want to cook your own you can always go to some great seafood restaurants. Mo's Restaurant is one of the best! They have the best chowder that we have ever tasted.
