Explore The Historical Sites On The Scenic Oregon Coast

fort clatsop There are some really great historical sites on the Scenic Oregon Coast that you can explore.

Along with our beautiful sandy beaches and ocean cliffs you can visit some great history sites.

I love to explore the history of Oregon and we have some great spots for you to check out.

The picture above is what the Lewis & Clark Fort looked like when they lived there for the winter.

It burnt down a few years ago but they have now rebuilt it to the exact specifications of the original fort.

If you are going to visit some of the historic sites be sure you take your camera because there are a lot of things to take pictures of.

History In The Making

One of the historical sites that I really enjoy seeing is Fort Clatsop. This is where Lewis and Clark made their winter encampment. As you visit the Fort you can just imagine what it was like back in the 1800's.

Our history goes back to the 1700’s but it wasn’t until 1804 that Lewis and Clark staked the United States' claim to the territory.

Historical Sites To Explore

Check below for the story of some of the sites. I will be adding more so check back often.

  • The Peter Iredale Shipwreck is a very popular tourist attraction on the Scenic Oregon Coast
  • Lewis and Clark Fort. Visit the Lewis and Clark historical site at Fort Clatsop and relive history.
  • Explore Historic Fort Stevens. Fort Stevens is located on the Scenic Oregon Coast just south of Astoria
  • Historic Flavel House. The Flavel House survives today as a landmark of local and national significance and is a home of great beauty.
  • Shore Acres. It is perched on the rugged cliffs high above the Pacific Ocean. The home once belonged to a lumber baron named Louis Simpson. You don't want to miss this one!
  • Hughes House. This home is located on the Southern Oregon Coast and was in the family for 111 years. It is now a historical site.

History Abounds On The Scenic Oregon Coast.

There are so many sites on the Oregon Coast where you can learn some history of our country.

Don’t forget to bring your camera because you can fill a photo album with just pictures of historical sites.

A lot of the sites have interpreters to help you understand what was happening in those days.

Oregon Coast History Centers

There are many County Museums and History Centers all the way down the Oregon coastline.

Just about every town will have a Visitors Center where you can stop and get a lot on information.

The people are usually volunteers that run the centers and they love to tell you about their town.

Many of them are a little older and they can really tell you stories about the history of their town.

I have gleaned a lot of information that I wouldn’t have know if I hadn’t of stopped and ask questions.
