Newport Oregon On The Central Oregon Coast

Newport Oregon is one of the largest cities on the Scenic Oregon Coast and offers many attractions. We love to visit the bayfront and explore the many different shops and attractions.
This is where Mo started her first restaurant. If you haven't had any of mo's chowder you just don’t know what you are missing. We have been eating there for years and every time we go to the coast we always manage to go there at least one time.
There are many arts and crafts shops on the bayfront plus some of the best homemade candy. We usually stop in to see what kind of new candy they are making and we always wind up buying some (even thought we don’t need it).
Also located on the bayfront is the Wax Works, Undersea Gardens and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. You don’t want to miss seeing them.
The U.S. Coast Guard Station is located here plus the commercial fishing fleet and charter boats. If you are in the mood to go fishing this is the place to come. They offer many different fishing trips. If you have a boat of your own you can also launch and moor your boat at a few of the special docks.
Oregon Coast Aquarium

Just across the bridge south of Newport are the
Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center. There is also the
South Beach State Park. This is a very nice campground. We stayed there when it first opened many years ago and now the trees have grown up and it is really nice.
Located just south of the aquarium is the Aquarium Village where you will have a shopping experience like you’ve never known. There are eateries, glass blowers, yarns, beads and jewelry and many different gift shops. It really is an experience to find all of this and more in one spot.
Also located in Newport Oregon are two lighthouses, Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. The great thing about them is that you can explore them and see the way the light keepers lived.
Nye Beach

There is also historic Nye Beach. Historically it is one of the finest vacation spots on the Oregon Coast. For over 100 years people have be coming here to enjoy the peace in and alongside the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Nye Beach is just off Coast Street and features a turnaround, public restrooms, parking, and beach access with a foot washing station, and of course shopping.
The neighborhood is 12 blocks long and two blocks deep. Currently there are more than 40 locally owned businesses and shops that line the historic district. Most visitors will miss Nye Beach because they don’t know it is there but now you do, so go explore and see what you can find.
