Explore The Oregon Coast Lighthouses

Cape Meares The Oregon Coast Lighthouses are an attraction to many people. They remind you of days gone by when the sailors watched for the lights to let them know where they were going. They are very fascinating to see and explore.

My love for them started many years ago. I now have statues and pictures that I have collected over the years.

I think it started when I found out that there is a lighthouse in Mexico that is named after me. Well maybe not named after me personally but it does have my name!

The Scenic Oregon Coast has 9 lighthouses, 2 private ones and a Lightship. Most of them have been restored and offer a look back to Oregon’s past. It makes you wonder how a light keeper and his family could live by them. Most of them were exposed to the Pacific Ocean wind all the time.

Here is a list of the Oregon Coast lighthouses.

These lights are listed from the North to the South on the Oregon Coast. Be sure to check them out here and if you can check them out live you won't be disappointed.

Coastal Lighthouses

You can discover Oregon’s maritime heritage by accessible links to the past-monuments that are still in existence.

Most of the lighthouses have interpretive centers that offer historical accounts of the lighthouses. With a little imagination you can gain some insight about what life was like for the light keepers and their families.

You can climb to the lantern at some of the towers and experience the views that the light keepers enjoyed. Listen to the sounds of the seabirds and the wind that was part of their life.

Keepers Of The Lights.

For more than two centuries, hardy men and a few women were keepers of the lights.

Then came the age of automation, thus the need for people was all but eliminated.

That special breed of people have become a part of our history.

They lead a rough life but seemed to be very happy and the children of the light keepers enjoyed the life.

Even though some lighthouses were a long way from civilization, the children always found ways to learn and have fun.
