Pelican Bay Lighthouse

pelican bay lighthouse Pelican Bay Lighthouse is the newest lighthouse in the United States and the second private lighthouse on the Oregon Coast.

For a number of years, the Cleft or the Rock Lighthouse was the only official private lighthouse on the Oregon Coast.

Bill Cady decided to have a lighthouse added to his current home in 1990. In 1997 Mr. Cady moved the home to its current location. It is now perched on the corner of a 100 foot cliff above the Pacific Ocean. The tower is 141 feet above the ocean and can be seen from as far away as 11 miles.

The Coast Guard commissioned the lighthouse as a private aid to navigation on June 24, 1999 and it was first lit on July 4, 1999.

The lamp is a fixed acrylic Fresnel lens and turns on at dusk and off at dawn. If you would like to see the lighthouse, just visit Brookings Harbor. You won’t have any trouble finding it.

Pelican BayLighthouse is owned by:

Bill Cady, Brookings, Oregon
We will also remind you that this is a private lighthouse,
and the privacy of its owner should be respected.

Fresnel Lens

The lamp is a fixed acrylic Fresnel lens that automatically goes on at dusk and off at dawn.

The lens is clear in color and cost $3,000. It runs on 110 alternating current.

There are a total of four lamps, 12 volts each with a life of 3,000 hrs. each.

What is really neat about the bulbs is when one light burns out, the bulb is automatically replaced with the next one by means of a built-in changer.
