The Yaquina Bay Ghost

Which ever story you want to believe they all are a very sad tale of ghosts on the Oregon coast.

I personally don’t know if I believe in ghosts but some of the stories sure sound real.

The story goes that in 1874 the crew revolted and took over the ship. For reasons unknown they cast their Captain, Evan MacClure, adrift in a small boat off the coast of Oregon.

They never found the body of the Captain and the incident was reported as a homicide. The problem is that the dead captain began appearing along the coastline in taverns and some homes.

Many people have told the tale of seeing the captain with the face of a skeleton. The ghost told one homeowner that he was only “looking for a place to stay.” The Captain found that place in the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse after it was abandoned.

Not long after the ghost moved into the lighthouse it was reported that a young girl and her friends were picnicking at the lighthouse and she ran back into the lighthouse to get a scarf she had forgotten. Her friends heard her scream and ran to the rescue, only to find the door locked. The young girl was never found and she was never seen again.

The ghosts of Captain MacClure and a young lady have been encountered by many people over the last 124 years.

The second story of a young girl ghost was told by a resident of Newport, Or. It seems that a group from a high school came for a tour one day. A boy and girl went down to the basement instead of up to the light. One of their friends noticed that they were not with the rest of the group so they began to search for them. Soon they heard a scream and they all ran to the basement where they found the girl’s bloody clothes. They never found the boy or the girl and they have never been seen since.

You can either believe this story or say it is a fantastic work of someone’s mind. I am not sure if I believe this story or not.
